Transfer Station Attendant
Position Summary
Reporting to the Senior Transfer Station Attendant, the Transfer Station Attendant supports a positive, safe and secure work environment while providing exceptional customer service. Duties include directing the public in proper disposal, financial transactions, site cleanup and resource coordination. The attendant works independently with minimal supervision, including weekends and limited overtime.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and organize waste-cart inventory, including assembly, delivery and repair.
- Direct traffic and customers and monitor site activity.
- Assess items for appropriate charges.
- Coordinate garbage and recycling programs and contracted collection and disposal services.
- Follow Alberta Recycling Management Authority requirements for special-waste programs.
- Provide accurate recycling and disposal information and resolve complaints respectfully and promptly.
- Operate cardboard and garbage compactors, a fluorescent-bulb crusher and related equipment.
- When acting, operate loaders, backhoes and skid steers to prepare materials for transport.
- Accurately handle payments and provide change.
Qualifications
Grade 12 diploma, Class 5 Operator’s Licence, at least one year of related experience and basic Microsoft Office knowledge. Mechanical aptitude, ability to use equipment, comfort with physically demanding work, organization, customer service, and clear oral and written communication are essential. Waste-industry knowledge is an asset. A Driver’s Abstract is required upon hire.
Hours: varying day and weekend shifts; weekly hours cannot be forecast. Salary: $25.57–$28.08 per hour. CUPE Local 30 position. Competitive wages, training and professional development and a 50% family discount at applicable City facilities are offered.
